Data Center Technician

Location:                 Rochester, NY 

Reporting to:          Facilities Manager

The Data Center Technician is responsible for maintaining the data center environment and ensuring all customer server environments are secure, operational, and highly available through continuous proactive monitoring, customer support, and scheduled maintenance preparation.  As a member of the team monitoring and maintaining the equipment in our data centers, the Data Center Technician is responsible for:

  • Monitoring DC resources (power, cooling and space) and reporting issues and escalating as appropriate
  • Constant review of infrastructure systems that support data center operations
  • Maintenance documentation for compliance
  • Building, upgrading, configuring, provisioning and installing servers from scratch, spanning several different platforms and configurations
  • Performing basic monitoring, troubleshooting and repair of all aspects of servers, operating systems and hardware
  • Installing switches, routers and network hardware
  • Upgrading and downgrading servers
  • Removing hardware from server environments
  • Performing routine maintenance activities on customer server environments
  • Responding to customer impacting events

Flexible work hours (9am-5pm), and participation in on-call rotation(s) (5pm-9am) is an aspect of the role.  In addition, occasional off-hour and weekend support will be required. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, this position is based in Rochester, NY.

Required Experience, Skills and Assets

  • Education: high school diploma
  • Reliable transportation – All candidates will be required to be able to be at the data center within 20 minutes of an alarm being generated
  • Industrial electrical background with interest and/or experience in HVAC and IT
  • Demonstrable skill in building, repairing or upgrading hardware components
  • Well organized self-starter, with the ability to work within a cohesive team environment
  • Mature and professional with a positive attitude toward work
  • Proactive approach to maintenance and problem avoidance


  • Previous experience in a DC environment, where customer service is critical
  • Industry relevant certifications
